Wanting to start an army...

I am kind of new to the game shop and have been playing Warhammer 40k for the past few months. I want to start playing FOW and was wondering what armies are most commonly seen and what time periods are portrayed. I am a bit of a ww2 history buff and was thinking an early or mid war German "foot slogging" Infantry company would be a good starter for an army. I have heard rumor that alot of people are playing late war scenario's and was thinking about collecting a late war German SS company as well. Any help on this would be great, I look forward to getting into this hobby soon, Thanks.

Late war is the happening thing. There are several books to choose from for your army list. I would recommend looking at a few of the books and seeing what ones have SS in them. Once you do that you can get an idea of where to start your force at.

In particular Cobra, River of Heroes, and A Bridge Too Far have SS forces in them. I'd also get ready for Early War since that is on the way in September.
